Bill Frisell has been on the music scene for a very long time. He has been producing music for over thirty years and through that time has (successfully) explored a number of genres. Among these are Jazz, Blues, Rock, Americana, Country, Folk, Funk, and so on. Frisell has always had a distinctive sound and he now applies this distinctive approach to the guitar to the music of John Lennon and the Beatles. Some of the most famous Pop songs of all time are found on this disc such as “Come Together” and “Imagine”.
All of these songs are performed as instrumentals by Frisell and his very talented group of musicians he has assembled on this disc. The violin work of Jenny Scheinman and the stunning pedal steel playing of Greg Leisz complement Frisell’s nuanced and balanced guitar work. The music of the Beatles is very simple in many ways but there is a beauty to much of this material and that beauty is enhanced by Frisell’s beautiful guitar work. Particularly impressive is the smooth melodies of “Across the Universe” and the shuffle feel of “Revolution”. This album is chock full of beautiful renditions of songs which have shaped American culture in the last couple of decades.
